Farewell Jean Brown | Sale Starts Today

Like many local fashion enthusiasts, I was saddened to hear that iconic Brisbane boutique, Jean Brown, is closing its doors. If this is news to you, take a moment to feel the loss. Those in the know have probably gone through a few stages of grief and may have already started planning those final visits for what is a not-to-be-missed sale (starting in store and online today!). But before we put our shopping hats on, let's take a moment to reflect on the store in all its glory.

Established by Director, Amber Long in 2007, and named after her Grandmother, Jean Brown set out to revitalise investment buying and an heirloom approach to consumption. Since its inception, Jean Brown has been an accessories magnet for luxury loving ladies, delivering an incredible line-up of international brands to our back yard on schedule with their overseas release. This ground-breaking approach really did lead the way, and Jean Brown quickly became a unique and much-loved shopping experience.

Housed in its gorgeous store in the Emporium, Jean Brown could always be relied upon for divine window displays and a killer edit of lust-worthy labels. From old-school leaders like Christian Louboutin, Saint Laurent and Lanvin, through to edgy innovators Proenza Schouler, Marni, and Alexander McQueen, and cult classics like Celine and Chloe, Jean Brown really had everyone's bases covered.

But perhaps my favourite thing about Jean Brown was the Archive; a collection of vintage and antique handbags that happens to be one of the largest in the world. Showcased in store through a series of revolving exhibitions, it set the store apart and educated customers on the surprising stories that handbags tell about human history through time. I was lucky enough to work with the collection on a number of occasions and was always amazed by its treasures. In these final weeks the Jean Brown Archive will be featured in one of the largest displays yet, well and truly worth one last visit in itself.

And with that, I would just like to say, Jean Brown, we sure will miss you!
