For stationary geeks like us, shopping for a diary is one of the mightiest of pleasures that comes when the clock strikes the New Year, so we’ve done you a solid and rounded up some of the best out there. Time to show 2018 who’s boss, and organise the hell outta it!

There are a few ways to tackle a hangover, depending on your intestinal fortitude. We asked the country's hottest chefs what they recommend.

What will it be this year people? Quitting smoking perhaps? Vowing to hit the gym every day of the week maybe? Or promising to not text the ex you’re still so madly in love with?

Boozy delights, stellar tapas and… a bowling alley? That’s right—Auckland has dished up so many seriously good (and unique!) watering holes this year, and it’s about time you visited ‘em all before 2017 rolls along and brings us even more. 

Summer is all about beaches, barbies, drinks with friends and—if you’re anything like us—outdoor movies. There’s nothing quite as special as sipping on a glass of vino, relaxing on a beanbag and watching a film with the stars twinkling above. 

From cereal killer cocktails made with Fruit Loop milk, vodka and Aperol to homemade cocoa pops and sticky date pudding espresso martinis, it seems 2016 was a year for cereal and dessert cocktails in Australia and New Zealand! But we also had loads of goodies from the French, Asian, Italian, Lebanese and American persuasions, as well as some top notch beer.

​If you’ve been lucky enough to explore the Marlborough region, you’ll know what we’re talking about when we say wine is the sole, most important thing there.

The key to an excellent New Year’s Eve is always a balance between being happy-tipsy and throwing up on your New Year’s kiss at one minute past midnight. Unfortunately for some (me included), it’s difficult to see this fine line—especially when you’re practically blind drunk.

Excellent cafes popped up in far-flung suburbs, all-day eateries answered our prayers for good food anytime of the day and destination cafes took our brunching experience to another level. The best cafes boldly made their mark on the food scene inspiring us with fresh and creative menus.

One of the things I most like about Christmas time is you can basically drink whatever you want, whenever you want.

​There’s no denying us Aucklanders love our rosé. Whether it’s frozen, blended in a cocktail or just as is, we can’t get enough of the pink delight.

Ahhh, Boxing day. The bittersweet reminder that Christmas is over. The stress about what to get Aunty Brenda, what to bring to the family lunch, and how to keep your Mum away from all that red wine is officially over. All that you’re left with now is a bin full of wrapping paper and a fridge full of leftovers. If you play your cards right you can make leftovers last until New Years, chances are your still full by then anyway.

As everyone knows, Christmas is a sacred time for comparing the retail price of Christmas presents with your siblings, stealing all the Lindt balls off the table while mum’s mashing the potatoes, and bitching about how stingy Grandma is, but there are also a host of other topics that should not, under any circumstances, be broached over festive nibbles.

Though on some levels it’s fun to see your whole family over Christmas, on many more levels it is extremely painful.

Christmas is around the corner—a time where all the good girls and boys get to eat their weight in ham and empty their bank accounts into other people’s Christmas stockings.
