We’ve had to say goodbye to way too many iconic venues this year, but here’s another to add to the list. The iconic Stock Exchange Hotel, where many a respected professional has spent their Friday afternoons getting absolutely blotto, will be permanently closing its doors on Sunday 13 December.

The Riversdale Group who are behind the hotel made an announcement on their social media today, stating that after purchasing the venue in early 2010, and transforming it into the bar we know and love today, they would be closing the mainstay of Brisbane’s pub scene before the end of the year.

“The Riversdale Group would like to take this opportunity to thank our valued customers, suppliers and contractors who have supported us over the years. We are especially proud of the experience our dedicated team has always delivered to our guests,” said the statement.

“Finally, a huge thank you to our loyal staff who stayed with us during lockdowns and restrictions—your hard work and dedication is beyond measure and we are truly grateful for all your efforts in keeping The Stock Exchange Hotel trading in 2020.”

No reason was given for the closure, but there was some light at the end of the tunnel—Sundays At Stockies will reportedly be moving to a bigger venue elsewhere, though the new location is being kept under wraps for now.

We’ll be crossing our fingers that a new team will snap up the famous pub and re-open it bigger and better than before, but for now, it’s time to find a new place for your Friday afternoon knock offs.
