ICMYI, it’s Summer, people! It’s muggy, storms are brewing on the daily, and we’re getting our daily mango fix like it’s going out of style. We teamed up with our mates at YHA Australia to bring you a list of how to keep the summer party going even when your bank account has other plans for you. 

In the spirit of the festive season, we’re here to bring you a little cheer this Friday morning. Cam and Jordy Votan, owners of fave Brisbane institution, Happy Boy have long had the foresight to transform the original location of HB (after the restaurant’s move to East St in Spring Hill), into another cracking dining venture. Rumours started swirling, and us hungry vultures were waiting for what the duo would serve up next.

Remember when we told you about that app that is basically Shazam but for plants and we all went nuts. Well, there's now an app that is pretty much Shazam for clothes and we're about to lose our sh*t. The guys over at Iconic, legends that they are, have gone and added a 'snap to shop' feature to their app and RIP all of your money.

If there’s one thing we love more than a good block party, it’s a secret basement cocktail party. So when we learnt about the secret basement cocktail party happening in Brisbane on December 16, we just had to share. The aptly named For The Love Of Film Village Party is being held in celebration of the arrival of Newmarket Village’s next-level Reading Cinemas and promises to be all sorts of awesome.

Any not familiar with the juggernaut that is Salt Meats Cheese, listen up and listen good: home to incredible pizzas, pastas (yes, of course they do pasta in a flaming cheese wheel), Salt Meat Cheese also make their own cheese, hold regular masterclasses, they have a deli that sources some of the best local, national and international produce one could only dream of, oh, and their restaurant arm of the business serves up some of the most authentic Italian this side of the Mediterranean. It’s exhausting just writing it all down.

Once you’re an adult, a truth becomes apparent. At Christmas, you more or less fall into two camps: you love it, spend ridiculous amounts on tree decorations, give people hand-made gifts you’ve had ready to go since September, and have to be firmly banned from playing Christmas music in the office before December 1; or, you can’t even be bothered with a Christmas tree, and prep mostly involves remembering with a sinking feeling on December 23rd that there were at least three people you forgot to buy gifts for.

There are few moments in life that separate the young from the adult like a dinner party. For one, there’s the notion that you have acquired cooking abilities so fierce you can now cook for a group of people, and not just a nimbly whip together your usual special (AKA—food delivered and Netflix on), and for another, there’s the given assumption that you have got your life together enough to plan a social gathering in advance that is civilized beyond just “going out”—you little adult, you!

Christmas is quite literally the most expensive time of year, which means your bank account is going to want to punch you in the face and knee you in the kidney come the New Year.

We’ve all been there: scrolling through Instagram and coming across travel picture after perfectly staged travel picture from our more photo-savvy friends. We double-tap and give them a begrudging heart, turning to stare accusingly at our travel companions who just don’t get how to capture our best angle.

I don’t know who Jessie is but she is one lucky lady if she’s rolling with this resplendent character.

Halloween is easily one of our favourite times of year. When else can you dress up in fancy dress, party (basically) for the entire week before and after the 31st, and eat bulk sweet things given to you by complete strangers? You know what's also pretty great? Being able to dress up your pooch for no good reason than because All Hallows Eve...

Somehow, through brutal karma or just dismal casting, Sophie has come out the other end of a flaw-riddled match-making competition with two absolute crumbs by her side. One wants to chain her to a superyacht, the other wants to wear her skin as a power blazer, both need a swift jab to the jugular. While six days of tv ads tells us that Sophie’s fallen head over heels in love, it’s clear that the only winner from this year’s season is the tourism industry of whatever subtropical Australasian island Jetstar was selling dirt-cheap flights to four months ago.

Well, this just might be the weirdest thing we've encountered in 2017, but it's true. A candle made from chicken fat and bone marrow exists and you can eat it, if you live in Sydney.

One word: Nutella. Noting has the ability to send the entire town of Brisbane into a sugared frenzy than the utterance of this humble nut spread. On anything. In anything. On a spoon. This chocolate spread holds iconic status for good reason.

It’s time to bow down to the overlord of hoity-toity restaurant sides because we’ve just tracked down the recipe for halloumi fries so your homemade veggie burgers can hit nek level. We know, that accolade traditionally belongs to Sunday’s shiny sibling, Saturday—but we’d argue that humble ol’ Sunday’s got just as much going for it. It’s still the weekend, after all…

That’s right, October's end is fast approaching and with it comes the most important sporting fixtures for hardcore quidditch fans: the Australian Quidditch Championship. (If you don’t know what quidditch is then this won’t seem terrible important, but for anyone who grew up in the 90s and beyond this is a big deal.
