Fenway Bar Subiaco

With a hefty nod to the 1930s Boston-style drinking houses, Subiaco’s Fenway Bar is set to open this week, so get ready to wet your whistle.

Taking over the spot that was Mooney’s (formerly Paddy Maguire’s) on Barker Road, Fenway is serving up craft beer, soul food and, of course, whiskey in its dark and cosy confines.

Complete with a fireplace, expect comfy chesterfield couches and booths, forest green subway tiles, a wood and granite bar, pool table and some big screen TVs to catch the latest ball games on. It’s essentially everything that’s good about an old school pub, and it’s dog-friendly too.

The menu offers plenty to get excited about, divvied into small plates, burgers, sandwiches, large plates, salads, sides and desserts. They’ll be serving fish fingers with pea and mint mayo, steak tips with horseradish cream, baked brie with cranberry conserve and hearty sides like creamed mash and crispy potatoes.

We’ve got our eyes set on the High Steaks sandwich featuring rump steak, cheddar cheese, streaky bacon and all of the trimmings, along with the Triple Play burger with grass-fed beef, blue cheese, bacon, red onion, marmalade and aioli.

They’re also doing some vegan and vego options—the Greenway burger features the very realistic Beyond Meat patty, so no-one has to miss out on hearty pub grub.

On the dessert menu, you’ll find chocolate mousse with ginger crumb and marshmallow and an Oreo ice cream sandwich, but it’s the apple and stout crumble that’s really caught our eye. It’s served with rock salt caramel ice cream and promises to be delicious.

It’s pretty evident the crew here takes cocktails seriously. Their menu features tasty tipples like the delicious-sounding New England Whiskey Sour, made with apple and cinnamon-infused bourbon, lemon, maple and egg white, and The Blue Moonshine Cobbler—it essentially sounds like dessert in a glass thanks to the lemon meringue and crushed biscuit garnish.

Adding to all of this, you can expect happy hour from Monday through Thursday, quiz nights on Mondays, cheap deals on Fridays and, if you live in Subiaco, you’ll score $2 off your first drink every time you stop by.

Fenway Bar will open from 11.30am every day, closing later on Friday and Saturday nights, so get down there and show your support soon.
