The Hamdog is half hamburger half hot dog and it exists right here in Perth… And to be honest, we’re not quite sure how we feel about it. The creator of this crazy hybrid, Mark Murray, has managed to patent the Hamdog and it will be popping up at markets, shows, races and other events around Perth.

What’s better than treating yourself? Treating yourself when you’re on holidays, of course! And there’s no better place to do that in WA than in our glorious south west. Home to some pretty speccy local designers—start saving because you’re going to need it on your next trip down south!

​Australia, your beauty never ceases to amaze us! Just a couple of hours from Sydney we’ve got the stunning Wollemi National Park and the Gardens of Stone National Park, and in between those, in the Greater Blue Mountain World Heritage region, one of Australia’s most beautiful resorts. My oh my where has the year gone! 2016 has been a bit of a whirlwind and we think it might be the best year yet when it comes to the Perth dining scene. With so many new cafes, bars and all of the pizza places, we thought we’d better remind y’all about the mountains of new restaurants you still need to get to before the year is out.

Growing up as a kid in the 90’s meant a whole bunch of great things: Harry Potter books, the first Toy Story movies, the reckless abandon of riding your bike until dark with your neighbourhood buds. However, some parts of your childhood were not so charmed.

The Queen’s Birthday long weekend is fast approaching, and like most long weekends, this one has crept up on us and left us scratching our heads with what to do for those blissful three days we get to spend not at work.

It’s that marvellous time of the year when the clouds roll away, leaves start reappearing on trees and the sun finally decides to show its face once again.

Coconut is having a moment and we’re not just talking about coconut oil. From coconut water to coconut ice cream, we love pretty much everything about this tropical fruit.

Bringing some much needed vibrancy to the top end of Eighth Avenue in Maylands, Henry On Eighth is a cafe-cum-bar-cum-art-space that we’re loving big time right now.

I’ve never thought of myself as an eyelash extensions kind of girl. In my mind, those girls are the sort that are way more committed to a high-maintenance level of beauty than I’m willing to devote my time to. But after seeing some gorgeous lashes floating around Perth lately (and hearing about how much time they save in the morning! Seeya later mascara!), I made an appointment with Perth eyelash extensions specialists, La Belle Peau to see what the fuss is all about.

I’m sure you knew this, but just in case you need reminding, Amsterdam is the greatest city in the whole damn world. Grab your bags, your can-do attitude, and don’t bloody worry about being tired. You can sleep later.

Over the past few years, Perth’s health and wellness scene has taken off and we are loving it! From the juice cleanse companies to the healthy cafes, from the wellness warriors to the hip yoga studios sprouting up all over town, Perth has got it going on.

Based on the reaction from my colleagues, you’d think I just asked them to choose their favourite child—and considering none of us have kids and we’re all CRAZY about food, this question was just as bad. Perched on the corner of Guildford Road and Kenilworth Street, Garden Cafe On Guildford has got to be one of Maylands best kept secrets. This unassuming cafe dishes up some of the tastiest breakfasts, juices, lunch goodies and sweet treats in a super cosy and cool setting. And the best bit? You don’t have to fight to find a car park or wait in lengthy lines—that is until we let everyone in on the secret of course.

We owe a lot to our Indian friends. Not only have they brought us yoga, delicious curries and cashews (best nut ever?), they also introduced us to chai—aka the tastiest spice concoction known to man.

Walk, catch, hatch repeat! What has happened to us all?! The couch is calling us back, Netflix misses us and we are actually walking around in that thing they call fresh air!

I think we can all admit that finding a decent coffee in Perth after 3pm often seems like a near impossible task. And look, we understand that when you walk in to your favourite cafe after 2pm it sometimes feels like you and the barista are the last people left on earth, because it’s true that there aren’t THAT many people drinking coffee in Perth after 3pm.

I'm trying to stay upbeat. I’m making delicious hot cups of tea, slipping on my ugg boots a soon as I get home and describing every night in as ‘cosy’ to make it sound more appealing when it’s freezing and pouring with rain outside. And let’s be real, Perth ain’t a bad place to experience winter. But everyone needs a holiday and you know what really makes me feel better? Dreaming about escaping for a short while to places filled with sunshine and swaying palm trees. Zoom in a little further, escapes in which I return a little more peaceful and cleansed by daily yoga and nourishing foods I don’t have to plan and cook for myself.

Start the week right with Pokémon and finish it with one of the best musicals ever. Sounds like a good week right? Well it gets even better. There’s a side of food trucks to go with those Pokémon, plus we’ve got a book party, a fashion film night and the chance to judge a whole heap of people who are trying to make you laugh. ​I pride myself on knowing just about every pocket of Perth, but when Fika On Brix opened a little over a month ago I had never heard of Beckenham before. And that’s not entirely surprising because, while it’s not too far from the city, it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. But, after scoping it out I can confirm it is 100% worth the drive; their breakfast is one of the best I have eaten all year. Possibly ever!
